Moorland Under 16’s

Fixtures and Results

Moorland School’s U13 team have proven their strength by battling through six tough encounters to reach the ISFA Cup final, to be staged at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium on Thursday 2nd of March (1.15pm KO).

Reaching the final of the ISFA Cup has been a wonderful achievement for our U13s this year.  Naturally, we hope to go one better and win the tournament when we contest the final at Burton Albion on March 2nd. Moorland has had to beat some big hitters to reach the final and it has been an emotional rollercoaster along the way.

The same Under 13’s team are also registered to compete in the Gothia Cup in July 2017.  The Gothia Cup is the World’s biggest and most prestigious youth cup competition.  Moorland would love to go to Gothenburg already with a national trophy in their cabinet!

Round 1 WIN: Oldham Grammar School 1 – Moorland 4

Match Report

A great team performance from the whole team from start to finish. The boys were outstanding in the first 20 minutes and a strong Oldham Grammar School who reached the quarter finals of this completion last year could not get near us!! Two wonderfully taken goals by Luke ensured that we went into the break 2-0 ahead and a great header from Alfie and a fantastic strike from Jamal added to the tally in the second half. Oldham managed to pull a goal back in between our two second half strikes which was frustrating as we defended very well throughout the game. Overall the progress that the boys have made since the Knowsley game two weeks has been very encouraging.

Round 1 LOSE: Westholme High School 1 – Moorland 3

Match Report

A very good performance from the team with the final score not reflecting the dominance of the team throughout the game. The boys had countless opportunities in the first half but a mixture of poor finishing and good goalkeeping meant that we only had a solitary goal from Luke to show for our efforts, until Daniel popped up with a great volleyed finish from an excellent corner kick in the final minute of the first half. We told the boys to keep pressing in the second half and to keep passing the ball and they got their just rewards when Luke followed up a wonderfully struck free kick from Daniel to slot home. Unfortunately we were not able to keep a clean sheet as a lapse in concentration allowed Westholme to have a free run on goal and finish nicely past Ethan. A good result and a good performance to build confidence for next weeks game at Oldham Grammar School.

Lancashire Cup (U16)

Round 1 LOSE: Ormskirk High School 3 – Moorland 1

Match Report

This cup game handed us a draw against last year’s winners of the Lancashire Cup, Ormskirk High School. The boys started off on the front foot and took the game to Ormskirk, Mineyuki hit the post and Jordan hit the crossbar before Luke gave us a deserved lead with a neat finish from inside the box. We continued to create chances after the goal, passing the ball well and defending as a unit. Two minutes before half time a dubious free kick handed Ormskirk their equaliser with a well struck shot that flew past Ethan. The boys came off the pitch somewhat deflated but they were told to keep being positive in their play and to take confidence from a great first half showing. The team started off flat in the second half giving way possession too frequently and fell behind for the first time in the game through an individual mistake. We responded well getting back on the front foot, taking the game to Ormskirk and failing to create two glorious chances. As we pushed for an equaliser to take us into extra time Ormskirk hit us on the break to kill the game off. The boys trudged off the pitch deflated but they must take positives from the game as they did not deserve to lose this fixture against last year’s winners.
